The List [Jan. 30th, 2009|08:59 pm]
[Current Mood | amused]

Earlier Greg and Alexis (my brother and his wife) were playing a game from Friends... there's an episode where Chandler says "we have a deal where we each get to pick five different celebrities that we can sleep with, and the other one can't get mad", so Greg and Alexis were each coming up with their own list and trying to think of what celebrities would be on the others list...

They spent a long time going back and forth trying to guess each others, with many many incorrect guesses.

I came up with my list, (which ended up being a list of 4 instead of 5, because I couldn't decided between 2 people for the last spot) and sent Dave (my boyfriend) a text message explaining the situation, and then asked him who would be on my list.

Less than 2 minutes later he replied, correctly guessing all 4 people, haha. I laughed so hard.

Oh, but he couldn't guess a 5th person, (probably because I couldn't either) so he just put Aladdin, hahaha.

Christmas... Birthday... Year... [Dec. 28th, 2008|11:04 pm]
[Current Mood | grateful]

Hello Livejournal, oh how long it has been!

Things have been GREAT lately. They've been... greately.

I've been pretty busy doing a million things and wow I am tired, but it has been a good few weeks. I hope everyone has been doing well, even though I don't write here practically ever anymore, and rarely comment on other peoples journals, I still obsessively check my friends page like 50 times a day, so I'm still reading!

For Christmas/My Birthday I got a lot of awesome stuff. )

So, it is my birthday tomorrow. Actually, in like an hour. It feels strange this year for some reason. I'm turning 20, and something about that kinda weirds me out. I'm excited about it, no more teenagery years, but it still slightly weirds me out. I can't quite put my finger on what this feeling is. Oh well. Yay 20!

I'm going to be spending my birthday seeing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at the Middle East, which I am so incredibly excited about! I love them so incredibly much, and this is what I did for my birthday last year too. So good.

I'm also going to see the Blue Man Group on Tuesday, with mom and siblings as my sort of family birthday celebration type deal, so that'll be awesome too. I've seen them a couple times before and it's always a good time.

This has been a really great year, and I'll probably try to elaborate on it a bit more before 2009 hits us.

So... 20, huh? We'll see how this goes.

I don't even know what to say. That is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I seriously just laughed for like 10 minutes.

IT HAS THE EBAUMSWORLD WATERMARK ON IT.

Oh, irony.

Edit: hahaha I just got to the end, and realized that it cuts off, so you can't read the part about how eBaumsWorld steals their content and such. That's even better.

[Current Mood | excited]

(crossposted from MySpace, Facebook, and the forum, sorry if you keep seeing this!)

LEMONIC DEMONADE 2008!!!!

Where?
My House!

(15 Summer Street in Kingston, MA)

When?
August 3rd, 2008!

What time?
Starting at noon (12pm) and continuing on all day until we get tired!

How much?
It's FREE!

We've had this same party/show thing the past two years and it is always lots of FUN! Lets try to make this year even better! We will have a moonwalk (bouncy house thingy), hamburgers and hotdogs, lemonade and other drinks, cotton candy and other fun snacks, music and dancing, and other totally awesome things! MAYBE EVEN A CLOWN.

At some point in the day Lemon Demon will be playing a set for your entertainment, and we will also have an open mic for other people to come up and play because we don't have hours worth of material, so bring any instruments and any audial components you wish to entertain us with!

You're welcome to bring snacks, beverages, and any various knick-knacks you think will add to the party (example: a real working android, if you happen to have one or two.)

If you are planning on coming, please respond to this and let us know how many people you're coming with so we can figure out how much food to buy. Thanks!

Potter Puppet Paul [Apr. 4th, 2008|08:15 pm]
[Current Mood | grateful]

Last night was really awesome. Neil, Emmy, and myself went to a Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm show. If you haven't heard of any of them I strongly suggest you check them out, because they rule. They're hilarious and write the catchiest songs ever.

Seriously, if you're reading this, chances are you'd like them. Go to the sites and listen to some songs. Just click "music" on either of their sites and you can play the songs right there. The ones I recommend as starter songs are:

JoCo:
- Re: Your Brains
- his cover of Baby Got Back
- Future Soon
- You Ruined Everything
- Tom Cruise Crazy

Paul and Storm:
- Opening Band
- any of the "If..." series
- Better Version of You
- Count to Ten
- any of the Randy Newman's Theme ones

The show was in Northampton which is like a two hour drive from where we live, but it was totally worth it. The show was absolutely amazing. The three of them make an incredible team, and every single song was awesome.

My friend Dave (the one who introduced us to their music) met them a few months ago and mentioned Lemon Demon to them. JoCo hadn't heard of us, but Paul and Storm apparently had. We thought that was pretty cool, and decided (at Dave's coaxing) to give them CDs of some Lemon Demon stuff. Neil and I made a custom mix of songs specifically chosen for what we think they'd like best, and burned them each a copy.

We hung around after the show so we could talk to them and give them the CDs. We first ran into Storm, and I very awkwardly tried to explain what we were doing and who we were. I kind of babbled for a few minutes and finally said "oh yeah the name of the band is Lemon Demon" and he went "Oh, wait, you're Lemon Demon? Yeah, we know Lemon Demon!" and then he was a lot less apprehensive about the whole thing, haha. We talked for a little bit and he was really cool.

Next up I tracked down Paul, and had a considerably-less-but-still-awkward version of the conversation Storm and I had just had. Again when I got to the "we're Lemon Demon" part he went "Oh! Lemon Demon!" which immediately made everything easier. At this point I expected him to bring up The Ultimate Showdown, but he brought up something else which threw us all for a loop. Instead of being like "oh yeah I heard Ultimate Showdown" he mentioned the The Song of the Count edit we did. Of all things, it had to be that, haha. He started going on about how much he loved that and said he had just shown it to Storm last week. We chatted for a while, thanked him again for the great show, and then moved on to make our jump on Coulton, who still had a group of people swarming around him.

I waited until he wasn't so busy and then went up and said hi. We did give him the CD, but ended up mostly talking about Dave instead of us. Dave does a YouTube series called Lesson a Week, in which every week he posts a video of himself teaching you how to play one of JoCo's songs on guitar. If you like Coulton, or guitar, or men from Chicago, I suggest checking the videos out. They're really good and Jonathan himself endorses them on his site, so they've become buddies through that. When I brought up Dave, Coulton got really confused.

JoCo: But... Dave's in Chicago.
Me: ...that's true.
JoCo: And... you're... here.
Me: ...that's also true.
JoCo: But Dave's in Chicago!

I thought that was really funny, apparently Coulton just can't wrap his mind around the idea of technology, like cell phones, allowing us to know people out of our own state. Oh also, during his set he decided to play a song that he hadn't really played for the past few months, and he did a good job on it except for a few problems with some chord changes during the bridge that he eventually ended up skipping while saying "forget it, I'm never gonna get through that bridge"... so I was telling Dave about that after the show, and he decided to make a special mini-lesson on the spot for JoCo. Like 15 minutes later he had this video uploaded:

I hope Jonathan enjoys it, hahaha. Maybe now he'll believe I really know Dave.

Later on Paul started talking about how the video for The Song of the Count "has had like a million views" which we laughed at and Neil says "Pssh, that video's like nothing. We have this other video that has had like literally almost 40 million views" so Paul asks "What is it?" and Neil says "It's this puppet show we do..." so I finally just go "It's called Potter Puppet Pals"... and suddenly Paul flips out and says really loudly "YOU'RE POTTER PUPPET PALS!?"

Neil and I just looked back and forth at each other and Paul continues on with "Holy shit, my kids love you guys. They've repeated those videos so many times for the past like two years, you have no idea, my daughter's gonna shit when she finds out I met you guys" and then, he immediately starts swaying back and forth going "Snape... Snape... Severous Snape..." I was laughing and laughing and finally asked if I could film him doing that. He was more than willing and we ended up with this impromptu performance of The Mysterious Ticking Noise, and then he called his house and woke his kids up so he could have Neil talk to them:

Okay, I've been writing this for a really long time, and this whole entry turned out like three times as long as I was planning, so I'm going to stop now. But yes, it was an incredible night, and go check all that music out! You will love them.

PPP press [Mar. 26th, 2008|02:00 pm]
[Current Mood | grateful]

I haven't really written anything about this yet, so I figured I might as well make a super mega post of it all at once. Our Potter Puppet Pals video The Mysterious Ticking Noise won Best Comedy of 2007 in the YouTube Awards!

We spent Thursday and Friday in New York doing a press tour type thing, doing various interviews wherever they popped up, including some stuff for The Associated Press, The New York Post, Fox News Channel, and Good Morning America.

We spent most of the time hanging out in Google's New York office, which was incredibly amazing. I seriously want to live in that building. Also there hanging out with us were a few of the other winners from different categories:

Dan Brown - How to solve a Rubik's Cube - Best Instructional Video
Tay Zonday - Chocolate Rain - Best Music Video
Jason Schlosberg - Battle at Kruger - Best Eyewitness Video
Felicia Day - The Guild - Best Series

Check the Winners Page to see all the winners of all 12 categories! There were hundreds of thousands of votes throughout the whole contest, and we're honored to have won for our category. It's an awesome feeling. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us!

After we got home, all the local press stuff started happening. We've been doing interviews left and right, it's crazy.

Tyson makes these microwavable ribs named "Any'tizers BBQ Seasoned Pork Mini-Ribs", and I am here to tell you not to buy them!

My Grandmother buys them because my little brother loves them, but I had a horrifying experience with them tonight, and now I'm grossed out. I wanted something quick to make because I was feeling too lazy to actually make anything, and I have only eaten pork like 2 or 3 times in my life so I figured why not. I cooked a few up, and as I was eating the first one I noticed something kinda weird looking about one of the others. I stopped eating so I could examine it. There was an odd colored spot sticking just slightly out of the meat that was about a half a centimeter in size.

I started dissecting it, and I'm still not even sure what I found. The rational side of me says that it must be some sort of weird piece of cartilage, but at first glance my friend and I both though it was like the bone to a toe or something and were absolutely horrified.

gross photos of meat )

Most of it is rubbery and cartilagey (that can't be a word) but some parts, like the bottom, are hard and bonesque. I don't really care what it is, because either way it's really gross. Needless to say, I did not eat the rest of those.

I think that'll be the last time I eat pork for a good while.

Ugh.

Edit: the conversation with my friend Brian about it is still making me laugh. He doesn't eat meat and I think I crushed his soul with this.
